Training & assessments

Assesments
Skills Assessment is undertaken in order to give those artisans and tradesmen who have practical experience but no formal trade training some form of recognition. This is done within the parameters of Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).

Artisans and tradesmen are sent to a formal Tradesmen Training Centre for practical assessment of their skills. The assessment may take up-to five working days. On successful completion of the assessment, each artisan or tradesman is then issued with a Certificate.

The Skills Assessment of artisans and tradesmen is done in line with the corporate requirements who may want skills verification for the individual tradesmen or sub-contractor’s employees before engagement.

Morever, all tradesmen recommended by Black Suppliers have completed a practical skills assessment, a business training programme and have been taken through a vetting process which includes the following:

For Individual Tradesmen
- SA ID
- Formal Trade Qualification (where applicable).
- Years of Experience.
- Background Checks, i.e. criminal records; qualifications; job references.
- Completion of a skills assessment test.

For Sub-Contractors
- Company Registration.
- Company Profile.
- Years of Experience.
- Background Checks, i.e. criminal records; qualifications; job references.
- Tax Clearance Certificate.
- Registration with relevant bodies (where applicable).

Training
Our training programmes are designed to equip self-employed emerging contractors and tradesmen with the necessary business skills to be able operate at an optimum level within their businesses.

The contractors and/or tradesmen who have completed our training programme are thus able to take on larger projects either as sub-contractors of major construction companies or as main contractors in medium size projects in the private of public sector.

Our training programmes are mostly sponsored by corporates in line with their Enterprise Development and local community investment goals.

Major Construction companies have adopted these Training Programmes as their own “Legacy Programmes” within local communities where they have construction developments. They are called “Legacy Programmes” because they leave a lasting benefit in the local communities where they operate.
